A pole pool has 2 poles n the width of the pool for support. They lock into a cup on the ground that is connected to a strap that goes under the pool liner across the bottom of the pool ( sand is used above the strap to protect the swimmers and the liner). Then there is a cable connecting the 2 poles on top. All these things, the strap, the cable etc. are needed to support the pool. The volleyball net just attached to the cable so it looks nice and you can play volleyball. Aluminum is better than steel. We offer three styles of pole pools, the Alexander, the Vortex and the Pole Pool. The advantage of the pole pool is that the outriggers on conventional oval pools take up space. There are also Buttressless pools that save space, but these need to go 2 ft into the ground for supports under the pool.
Buttressless are as strong as buttress pools, it is a question of space and style.
